WILIIAM & GENEVA MCELWAIN had one daughter IRENE MCELWAIN 1st m. JOHN FRANCIS AUWAERTER 2ND m. JOHN GALLAGHER of Naples FL. They have one granddaughter, MARY (JOSEPH) LOFTUS of Carlsbad CA; two great-grandchildren, LAUREN & J C LOFTUS.

MCELWAIN was a professional football player for the Chicago Bears. His teammate was the legendary Red Grange. Prior to this he played football at Northwestern University where he was a "star". MCELWAIN also played with the Cardinals.

MCELWAIN coached (1927 - 1940) baseball, basketball and football at Ferris Institute, later know as Ferris State University. He compiled a 31-44-7 record in football guiding the Bulldogs to a 6-2 mark in 1928. He was 97-122 in basketball including a 17-4 record in 1931-32. This record stood as the school's best finish until 1961-61.

WILLIAM THOMPSON MCELWAIN graduated from Northwestern University in 1924 with a BCS degree. He received an LL.B. from Cumberland University in 1935 and a J. D. from Stanford in 1968.

MCELWAIN was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1938. He practiced in Mecosta MI in the law firm of WILLIAM T MCELWAIN & WILLIAM A HARPER. He was a special attorney for Mecosta County. He was legal counsel for The Taggart Brothers Gas Co in Big Rapids(1940-1968) & Chairman of their Board of Directors(1952-1968).

At Ferris State University besides being a coach he was Dean of Men (1936-1940). He was a Sigma Nu, Republican, & Roman Catholic after his marriage (Episcopalian before). He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Society(1956-1962); DERU; President of the 27th Judicial Circuit Bar Association.
