According to preliminary reports from the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, Walter Todd Ledet, 40, 25265 Lake Choctaw Rd., was shot once in the chest with a small calibre pistol shortly after 11 p.m. There were reportedly four witnesses to that incident, which took place at Ledet’s home. Haynes Heath Wascom, 29, 56016 Mill Rd., was arrested at the scene and charged with second degree murder. Earlier in the evening, the two men had been taken to police headquarters in Bogalusa after a verbal and physical altercation that was witnessed by a passing patrolman. The men were charged with disturbing the peace by fighting, domestic violence. Ledet was also charged with resisting an officer. While the men were in custody, the BPD reportedly called the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office and was advised that there was no jail space available for them. The parish jail is currently overcrowded, and only people charged with felonies are being accepted, according to the WPSO. Ledet and Wascom bonded out of Bogalusa, and within two hours, Ledet was dead. The case is still under investigation. 1
