This is a devistation to America. One that WE WILL overcome. I have not lost a loved one but feel the pain just as much as those of you who have. My heart & prayers are with all. I'd like to also give recognition to those that are out there at Ground Zero for such a diligent job that they are doing. The dedication of the Americans has been phenominal. United we stand, divided we fall. To the firefighters, rescuers, & police officers who have had their lives taken by such a tragedy, you have lived life as heroes, you have all past on as heroes. Mayor Giuliani, keep up the good work! I believe I can speak for all when I say that we are proud to have you as Mayor of NYC. President Bush, let us not lose faith. We can do this. WE ARE AMERICA & WE WILL BE HEARD!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!
“THE COURAGE and loss we saw in New York we’ve seen in every community that has laid a firefighter to rest,” the president said.
The monument for firefighters is located near the presidential retreat at Camp David where Bush and first lady Laura Bush spent the weekend.
“Firefighting is a hard and demanding job,” Bush said, addressing relatives of the fallen firefighters. “It has been said that a firefighter’s first act of bravery is taking the oath to serve.”
“The nation pays respect to them for their service and their sacrifice. And we respect you, their families for your sacrifice,” he added, urging the mourners to “give one another the strength to go on.”
“All these firefighters loved life. And scripture teaches there is no greater love of life than to lay down your life for another,” Bush said. “You can know that today your loved ones are not forgotten.”
