Astral Coventry 17" Dial Clock
This was another lucky eBay find. It looked awful in the crummy auction photos, but because of the overall size, and the style of hands, I decided to bid on it, and I got it for the opening price of 65.00$ US plus shipping.
When it arrived, I thought it looked great. The case is a little plain, and it wasn't a fusee clock, but it did have a nice little lever movement by Astral Coventry.
The movement is an 8 day time only, with jeweled balance wheel, protected by a brass cover. I am told that this clock probably had a secondary cover which covered the entire movement, and was held in place by a screw near the centre of the movement (you can see the hole). This cover is missing.
The dial is hand painted on steel or tin, and has a "Broad Arrow" symbol under the keyhole, which indicates that it was made for government (or military) use. It was likely used in a government office, or similar setting.
The bezel latch was missing, and I made a new one to replace it. The clock also had a broken glass, which I also replaced. The clock was filthy in general, and I refreshed the finish, and polished (lightly) the bezel.
For whatever odd reason, the case appears to be made from plywood. I'm sure it's all original.
