E.N. Welch Alexis No.2 Wall Clock
This clock was a very generous gift from a member of the NAWCC Message Board. He already had the Alexis No. 1, which has a larger dial, and he had bought this clock (with the intention to fix it), and never had the time to restore it, so he offered it to me. I would say who, but he wished to remain anonymous.
I was very surprised, and very grateful for his gift, and decided to restore it and display it on my wall as soon as I had the chance to work on it.
The clock needed minimal work, which included restoring the label, cleaning the movement and gong, antiquing the replacement hinge one the (new) bottom door (which was made by a professional woodworker), and painting a new "bull's eye" tablet. There were also a few chips in the wood that I filled and touched-up.
This is a wonderful piece. It features the Welch Patent Escapement, which is a club tooth escape wheel. It has a 10" painted dial (which has been touched-up, and could be redone at some point), original moon/doric hands, and beautiful case with carved accents.
