Gilbert Octagon Lever Clock
This clock is one of the first clocks I bought specifically as a "fixer-upper". I knew it was a nice early octagon clock because of the style of the hands, and everything seemed to be there.
Let's just say that this clock was a lot more work than I had originally thought. I knew the veneer was missing pieces here and there, but what I didn't know was that most of the veneer was actually peeling off. Because of this, many pieces had to be pulled off, then reglued.
I decided to clean the movement first, and found it to be in excellent shape. The "jewels" look like banded agate, and are light blue. The front plate is stamped 'MANROSS' (Elisha Manross?)
The case took me about 3 months of on-and-off work. I took my time on it and worked on the case in between other projects. I finally finished it about two weeks ago, but only got a glass for the bezel yesterday (Feb 18 2005) and put in the silicone for the glass today, then that will be it.
This is the finished clock:
And these are some "before" photos, so that you can get a better idea of how much work went into this clock. Photos of the movement may come later, but for reference, the movement is almost identical as the previous octagon clock.
