Seth Thomas Sonora Clock
This is a Seth Thomas Chime Clock #57, made in 1921, and it originally sold at that time for $75.00. Sonora clocks use a normal American time and strike movement, and a separate chiming movement. This, in combination with several other pieces inside, made of cast iron, makes them very heavy. This movement(s) too me about 9 hours to clean. It was filthy, and covered in oil.
Sonora clocks are usually on bells, but also on rods (like this one). I would have preferred bells, but was more than happy to get this one.
The clock was purchased in sad shape from a local pawn shop. It had been stripped to bare wood, and had a floral decal applied to the front. I restored it as close as possible to original.
