Bronco Pride Choosing a college was the most stressful decision of my life. Like all high school seniors, I felt everything was riding on this choice. I finally decided on Western Michigan University in April 2000, mere weeks before the refund deadline. It has proven to be a wise choice. My parents were nervous about having me leave home. Mom says, "I was very apprehensive about you attending such a large college." Dad says, "I know that you could have gone to any school in the country. I was very touched that you knew that losing my job meant that money would be tight and you could help out by not going to a private school. I am very proud of your accomplishments in college."

The first six weeks of my college life were really rough on me. I was close to my parents and hated being away from them. I started making friends and eventually made it out of my slump. I was getting to be close with Katie Huey, a girl I’d met at orientation and was in my cluster. Even though I never built up much of a relationship with my roommate, I was getting closer with my suitemate, Amanda Walker. Eleven of the girls on my floor formed a pseudo-sorority during the second semester that year. We called ourselves the Foxy Ladies (we lived in Fox Hall), referred to as the F-Lambdas. We had many good times that year, including our own game called Wall Butt. I was sorry to see the year end and marveled at how far I’d come since September.

My sophomore year was awesome. I remained in Fox with Amanda as my roommate and Katie as one of our suitemates. The rest of our friends had moved up to Zimmerman Hall. Our suite had many adventures that year. We took a road trip to Chicago in April to end out our year together and a trip to Grand Rapids in February to see Beauty and the Beast on the Imax. We had many traditions, like Thursday night NBC and Tuesday night Osbournes. All four of us had a love of Harry Potter, though none as much as me. By April that year, I had formed a very tight bond with Amanda and Katie and was devastated to see the year end.

I’m now a junior and live with Amanda again this year. We have been having a great year. We took another trip out to Chicago in November with Katie and Lynn (out other suitemate from the previous year) and have a Grand Rapids trip in the works. We’ve seen a lot of movies, including opening night Harry Potter, and attended some shows at Miller. Katie has given me a brand new obsession – Care Bears. Ah, just what I don’t need. Oh well. :-)
