"Me
fail English?
That's unpossible!"

Several
times over the years I considered majoring in English,
especially as USC offered a BA with an emphasis in writing.
However, such a degree didn't fit in with my current career
in any way, so instead I simply took most of the core writing
courses (listed at right) as credits towards a BAIS (Bachelor of
Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies).
Although I had no specific goal in mind at the time, turns out
taking these classes led to a rather sudden career (and life)
change... Details outlined on my NCR
page (see "1994").

Business Writing
Basically
this was a Tech Writing class with a slightly broader
scope, including such things as persuasive writing, sales
letters, etc. We used state-of-the-art WordPerfect (it was 1992,
after all). |

Technical Writing
A straight-up tech writing
class.
Had the odd experience in this class of seeing examples used in class which
were from a real-life NCR
manual for a
product I'd actually worked on as a mechanical
designer. |

Advanced Writing
A great
nonfiction writing class. Turn in 5 pages per week of writing on
any topic, to be read aloud in class. No grade until the end of the
semester—but plenty of classroom & professor feedback along the
way.
Especially liked the intro to rhetoric.

Basic Writing
The guy who
taught me to crawl so I could later walk! I came to college not really
knowing how to write a sentence or an essay. (How the heck did I get in,
anyway?) I still can't spell, but never mind that! |
