Perhaps
an unlikely name, but this has always been one of my favorite cookies... Nothing flashy or fancy; just kinda a sweetened shortbread with tiny chocolate chips, thickly coated with powdered sugar, and a very, very minimal trace of coconut (practically indistinguishable, or else I wouldn't like them).

And I guess distance makes the heart (and taste buds?) grow fonder... They've become a bigger deal to me of late, because I can't find them in San Diego!

They've been around forever... When I was growing up, back in the '70's, they used to come in a bag; now they come in a box (above). And unless my memory betrays me, they used to be a little larger and more thickly coated with sugar back in the bag days.

Yet I definitely still love 'em... Not too sweet, not too rich; I can eat a whole box in one sitting. But as mentioned above, I've never, ever seen them on a grocery store shelf in Southern California:

What's the deal with that, Keebler?

Given that Keebler is a huge national brand, there must be some arcane marketing reason as to why these cookies only have certain regional distribution. (Keebler's website says: "Most of our products are carried in major grocery stores nationwide..." Well, I guess my favs are not one of the "most of...")

So, I always "stock up" when I'm back home. I've even bought them in Columbia and mailed them to myself in San Diego. I just hope that they eventually make it to full distribution on the West Coastbut that they do NOT ever make it here (Keebler's list of discontinued products)!!
