My favorite sport is cricket. I love this game very much. Wherever, I go, even if it is in a place where no one watches or knows about cricket, I will still try be updated with the cricket news. I enjoy playing cricket, watching it on TV and also participating in cricket discussions and debates.
My favorite team in cricket is my country Bangladesh. My favorite player in the Bangladesh team was Akram Khan. According to me and also many other people in my country Akram Khan is one of best players of Bangladesh. He was the captain of the team for quite a few years. In the premier league he is the captain of my favorite team Abahani Crira Chakra. During his captaincy, Bangladesh won the ICC Tournament in 1996, which gave us the ticket to play in the Cricket World Cup in 1999. In our first world cup we were able to beat Scotland and also Pakistan. This magnificent performance by our cricketers led us to be the 10th test cricket playing nation. However, after that time period unfortunately we were not able to see any success. One of the reasons was that we lacked good coaches and also because unlike any other test playing nations we did not have any cricket stadium. Thus, our players, did not get enough coaching, time and place to practice their skills and also their fitness. Another reason was that for political corruption in the team selection committee our best players were not always on the team and the team was never stable, which is why the players had a hard time to have a good understanding between them. After the disastrous performance in the 2003 World Cup, a few months later Dav Whatmore, the former coach of the 1996 World Cup Champions Sri Lanka was appointed the coach of Bangladesh and Khaled Mahmud Shujon was named the new captain of our team. In these few months Bangladesh's performances improved a great deal and the team has also got much disciplined. Moreover, right now we have a better selection committee and the government has also granted the Dhaka Stadium solely for cricket. With all these, I think that success is not very far away from our team. Bangladesh is a small country but it has a big population and it has many potential players. If we are able to develop a better structure for cricket not only in Dhaka but all over the country then certainly we will get more potential and promising players in our team. In this way we will be able to recognize the promising youngsters and give them the nourishment they need, and then in the future we can certainly be the favorites. Currently, potential players in our team are Mohammad Ashraful, Mashrafee Mortoza, Alok Kapali, Rajin Saleh and also Hannan Sarkar. However, the best player in our team right now is Kazi Habibul Bashar Sumon, who is also the captain of our team and spinner Mohammad Rafique. Khaled Mashud Pilot, the wicketkeeper of our team is also a very good player. One of the main reason why they are the best right now according to me is because their performance is pretty stable and they are also very dependable. During the course of these years I think that the bowling and fielding of our team has improved more than our batting. Fitness of our players are also much better than it used to be before and this is very important because now a days fitness is one of the key points in playing any sports. For a few years Bangladesh has not won any matches but I hope that they will win soon. This is because it makes me proud of my country. Bangladesh is a poor country, and it only makes it in the world news for natural disasters and corruption. Bangladesh Cricket team has the ability to change this. If everyone in the team plays their best than one day surely, Bangladesh will not be known as a third world country with corruption but a good cricket playing country. Finally, I would like to say about our team that regardless of the result, my support will always be with the Bangladesh Cricket Team no matter where I am.
My second best team is Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is very good in one day matches but I think in test matches they have to improve more. My favorite player was Aravinda-De-Silva. I also like Pakistan and my favorite player was Wasim Akram. Currently without any doubt Australia is the best team in cricket and they are almost unbeatable.
Cricket is not a very popular sport in the world. It is especially very popular in the Sub-continent region. I hope that it gets more popular and more country starts playing it. The ICC has taken many steps for this already. If more countries play this sport than in the future it will be a much more fun sport.
