For a short period of time they adored me,
they walked with me and gave me lots of treats,
but very soon they became bored with me
and they abandoned me in unfamiliar streets.
Despairingly searching for home, I wandered
across many busy roads with hidden dangers,
I was forced away from every doorway
and feared by approaching strangers.
I wagged my tail to let them all know
that I was a dog worthy of their affections,
one look at my matted fur and dubious gaze
and all my efforts ended in more rejections.
The rain fell and the cold winds blew
and my weak frame was chilled to the bone,
the nightly rustling of leaves unnerved me
and I longed for someone to take me home.
In exhaustion I laid myself down to die
on a small piece of untrodden land.
I heard an angel whispering kind words
and felt the touch of her gentle hands.
After being rescued from my inevitable death
I awoke to find my angel was standing there,
she warmly smiled and stroked my side
and I knew that I'd found someone who cared.
