Glossary
2 wheel drive -
a motor vehicle transmission system delivering power to only the front or rear wheels
4 wheel drive - An automotive drive system in which mechanical power is transmitted from the drive shaft to all four wheels.
Traction -
the friction between a body and the surface on which it moves (as between an automobile tire and the road)
Transfer Case -
The transfer case receives power from the transmission and sends it to both the front and rear axles
Transmission -
a gear system that transmits mechanical power from an engine to some form of useful output device
Differential -
a device consisting of gears, for supplying equal tourque to the driving wheels, even as they rotate at different speeds.
Limited-Slip Differential -
limits the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels so that useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.
Posi Track - differential turns both drive wheels at same rate weather traction is lost or not
All Wheel Drive -
a drivetrain that allows all four wheels to receive power from the engine simultaneously
Hub - the part of the wheel that locks the axles in so the wheels will then become drive wheels |
