http://edition.cnn.com/2012/03/20/opinion/greenberger-health-premiums-gender-gap/index.html?hpt=hp_bn6

Though the tone is a bit alarmist, the main point suprised me.  Women have to pay up to $1,200 more per year than men for health insurance.  And that does not include maternity costs.

And how do you get materinity coverage?  You don't.  94% of healther insurance plan do not offer health insurance.   Unless you live in one of nine states that require insurance companies to offer.

 avgerage cost of birth:  $9,600.

Now Playing: online nukes
by Robert Krulwich

I blew up my neighborhood today, courtesy of Alex Wellerstein, science historian.

Wellerstein works at the American Institute of Physics in College Park, Maryland. After hours, he is a mad bomber — but a careful, data-driven, history-minded mad bomber. His newest creation, which I found on his blog, is called NUKEMAP.

Wow,

Pretty interesting. Especially when I compared the blast damage of a bomb in New York City to Hardy, Nebraska. New York City would be devasted, Hardy would be gone (of course), but only a few farmers would be hurt. The infrastructure would hardly be damaged. Just drive one or two miles out of the way. Crazy, but I think the scale of a nuclear bomb, is smaller than the Community of Hardy.

(ha, Maybe that means Hardy is bigger than New York City?)

"the first time a wife hears the description of Asperger's, she thinks her husband has it."  - quote from Kristen Finch.   http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/458/play-the-part

Emotionally distant, doesn't listen, doesn't want to talk. But actually, her husband did have it. It explained alot...

The best line " How often to you think about making traps?"

Note:  online test included for those curious!

An info graphic ( that accompanied an interesting article ) about the dramatic decline of New Orleans' population.  Nearly every neighborhood has taken a loss. And over half have shrank by 50%.

Cameras, cell phones, internet, 3-D movies.... Technology has come a long way.

But it still can't match the sights and sounds of walking across a snow laden pasture. A dying sunset in the west, embering yellow. The rising eastern moon, ringed by silver clouds, casting its own kind of feeble light. Great Horned Owls marking their territory, Coyotes answering. And a planet, Jupiter, joining when the silvered clouds allow.
