Buffy rolled her shoulders and stretched leisurely. Kate smiled at Buffy's movements and snuggled deeper into the blankets. When Buffy was done stretching, she rolled over and faced Kate.
"You okay?" asked Buffy.
Kate nodded, and inched closer to Buffy. Their knees touched, and Buffy grinned. Kate reached out and wrapped her hand around Buffy's.
"How about you? This must be a little strange," said Kate.
Buffy laughed softly, and traced her thumb over Kate's knuckles. "I'm a Slayer. Strange is what I do."
"Yeah, but your first time with a woman," Kate said softly. She tugged their connected hands above the covers and kissed Buffy's fingers.
Buffy wrapped her hand in Kate's hair, sliding her fingers through the strands. Buffy leaned across the pillow and kissed Kate lightly.
"It's not like I haven't spent most of my life thinking about it," Buffy murmured against Kate's lips. "A lot."
Kate blinked in surprise and pulled back from Buffy's kiss. "You have?"
Buffy squinted at Kate. "Yeah. Sorry, I guess that's not really good morning-after conversation."
Kate frowned and curled into a fetal position, still staring at Buffy. "You know, if I had guessed who we would be talking about after our first time, I would have bet on Angel. But he's not a woman."
"No, he's not," Buffy agreed. She rolled over on to her back and stared at the ceiling for a moment. "You met Faith, right?" she asked, looking over at Kate
Kate nodded.
Buffy shrugged. "You met Faith. There isn't a person in the universe who could meet her and not imagine what it would be like to be in bed with her."
Kate hesitated for a moment, and then slid closer to Buffy. She lay her hand on Buffy's stomach and kissed her shoulder. "Yeah, she's got a certain amount of sex appeal, doesn't she?"
"That's putting it mildly," said Buffy dryly.
"So you've thought about this?" Kate asked.
Buffy nodded, and wrapped her arm around Kate. They spent a few moments negotiating their positions. Kate couldn't figure out where to put her knees; Kate had to squirm slightly to accommodate her chest against Buffy's side.
"I mean, I've thought a lot more about you in the last few weeks then about Faith. But she was pretty important to me for a while."
"I never—" Kate began, and then interrupted herself. "That's pretty egocentric, isn't it? Just because I'm the first woman you've dated doesn't mean I'm the first woman you've noticed." She nuzzled Buffy's collarbone, and didn't look up at Buffy's face.
Buffy pulled Kate closer. "Well, it's not that strange. I am pretty straight."
"You don't look so straight to me," said Kate, and kissed Buffy. "Pretty, yes, but not straight."
Buffy laughed against Kate's lips. "Not at the moment, no," said Buffy, and returned Kate's kiss.
Kate didn't respond verbally for quite some time.
Nearly an hour later, Kate said, "So now that we've gotten that out of the way—"
Buffy grabbed the pillow out from under Kate's head and whapped Kate with it.
"—We can think about breakfast," continued Kate blithely.
Buffy tucked the pillow back under Kate's head, and then drew her eyebrows together. "Is it true, what they say about cops and donuts?"
Kate let out a squak and glared at Buffy, outraged. Buffy grinned back, unrepentant.
"It is true, isn't it? I knew it!"
Kate climbed on top of Buffy and looked down at her. "There is nothing wrong with a nice donut," she growled.
Buffy slid her hands up Kate's thighs and rested them on Kate's hips. "Nope, not a thing," she said, lecherously.
Kate pursed her lips, and then bent down and kissed Buffy again.
Buffy kissed back, and when Kate had moved on to her neck, Buffy murmured, "We're not going to do donuts this morning, are we?"
Once more, Kate didn't answer. Buffy didn't mind.
