suzuki GT 750

1974 suzuki TR 750

We will start with carbs,36/38mm mikuni powerjets/lectron flatslide power jets both are excellent and will give the power required, ebay is a good supplier, look for stuff off snowmobiles, a good set of expansion chambers is a must ,the stock carbs and pipes if in good condition can be easily sold , for performance they are junk, the head can be skimmed upto 40 thou dependant on fuel ,the ultimate head is centre plug and squish bands if you have the $$ to have one machined ,the stock head is nothing more than a lid!!, make sure the thin type steel head gasket is used, there is a thick one as an option, the pistons need 3mm taken off the inlet skirt and i drill a small hole in the wrist pin boss to increase lube, 3mm must be machined off the face of the block and a 3mm packer plate fitted under the block ,i use a base gasket on each side, reed valves again from a snowmobile can be fitted if you have the $$ but more work is needed as reeds on their own will not increase the power, GTReiner1@aol.com in germany can supply pistons of better quality similar to the now unavailable ones from wiseco. a decent electronic ignition system is a must, the stock ignition is junk, i have nothing on either side of the crank but a trigger for the ignition, the SIRS system is junk, toss it all, look for a dyna system or similar for h2 kwak or again snowmobile and adapt its loads of work but worth it!! Please make sure the crank and engine is in good order before you start tuning . Straight cut gears can be found, if you are lucky, the clutch will benefit from new plates and springs make sure you use the roller bearing centre type clutch.
