"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." -- Henry Adams
I believe in knowledge. I
believe in learning. The purpose of school is to develop in the youth of
America, the ability and desire to continually seek out new information, to
retain these ideas, and to apply and elaborate on this knowledge in all areas of
their lives. It is the teacher’s responsibility to present information and ideas
that are relevant to the students’ needs for eventual integration and success in
modern society. Although some basic ideas must be introduced and mastered, I
believe students of even the youngest age are capable of determining what
information they hold value to. In order for a child to develop a
passion for seeking out knowledge, that child must be internally
motivated and stimulated. A successful teacher creates opportunities for each
student to find these intrinsic qualities and to use them to take personal
charge over their educational experience.
I believe that all students want to learn. I believe that all students are
entirely capable learners. The personal success of all students is the goal. In
order for all students in any classroom to be successful, the students must be
exposed to as many different mediums of learning as possible on as many topics
as reasonably possible within the time given. I believe that by taking the time
to guide students in a direction that is most personal to them, the gift of real
knowledge is given. Through that gift, the essential facts and ideas that have
been passed down over centuries will become not just retained in the brain for
later recall, but ingrained within the students’ beings for application to the
advancement of our tomorrow.
