Comparing Vertebrates

INTRODUCTION

You will be writing a good paragraph describing and comparing two vertebrates from different classes. Your paragraph must be at least five sentences long. Be sure to include a good topic (first) sentence that tells what you are writing about.

Use your graphic organizer (either your T chart or your venn diagram) to organize the similarities and differences between the two vertebrates you have chosen.

Use your textbook Chapter 3 Lesson 3 and the websites listed here to help you do your research.

For both animals, you must include:

-What class they belong to
-Do they breathe with lungs or gills?
-Where do they live?
-Do they live in water or on land?
-Do they lay eggs/have a pouch/develop inside of their mother?
-Are they warm or cold blooded?
-What do they look like?
-One picture of each animal to go with your paragraph

WRITING

1. Once you have gathered all of your information on your graphic organizer, you can begin writing your rough draft. Be sure to include a good first sentence and correct spelling. If you are not sure how to spell a word, LOOK IT UP!

2. When you finish your rough draft, re-read and revise it on your own.

Check to make sure that:
-you indented
-you varied your sentences
-you have a topic sentence
-you spelled everything correctly
-you remembered all of your punctuation
-your paragraph makes sense!

3. Once you have revised on your own, find a classmate to trade papers with. Read and revise each others papers, making sure to check that:
-they indented
-they varied their sentences
-they have a topic sentence
-they spelled everything correctly
-they remembered all of their punctuation
-their paragraph makes sense!

4. Show your rough draft to a teacher for a final revision. Once Miss. Gamble or Mrs. Kasa approves your rough draft, you may begin your final draft.
