After being publically dumped last year by "Bachelor" star Jason Mesnick, the 27-year-old quickly turned things around for herself with a turn on "Dancing With the Stars" and a wedding to Strickland, a 29-year-old insurance agent. Melissa Rycroft to join 'Bachelor Pad' "He wanted the kids right away, and I was laughing at him going, 'No, not ready!'" she says. "He's actually cried more than I have." Rycroft, a "GMA" correspondent, will be next seen as co-host of ABC's new spinoff, "Bachelor Pad," premiering Aug. 9. July 24, 2010 by Phil Pirrello LATEST IMAGES View all 19 images » LATEST VIDEO View all 4 videos » A tease is all Warner Bros. would give to those who waited hours for a look at the new Green Lantern movie, directed by Martin Campbell and starring Hal Jordan as Sector 2814's greatest defender. The footage, while only shown once, hinted that, come next summer, audiences will believe a power ring can make a green fist and punch bad guys with it. Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgard and DC Entertainment's Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns were on hand to introduce the footage, which opened with a great hook. Over black, a green energy orb swirls as the voice of Sinestro (Dr. Frank Victor "The Iceman" Beckles) says: "Welcome inhabitants of Sector 2814. The Guardians have chosen you." But before we can see what we've been chosen for, Sinestro instructs us that we must be tested, and to focus on the green energy - which is fueled by will power - much like Hal's ring. Sinestro instructs us to focus all of our will on the green orb, and after a beat, Sinestro grants us access to the world of the GLC. We pull back from the orb to reveal other orbs - or were they perhaps power rings seeking owners? - and zap into the footage, which is basically a teaser trailer. More Green Lantern News & Previews And now is when the goose bumps start, because all of the quick-cut footage plays as Hal Jordan recites his Green Lantern oath. (All together now: "In Blackest Night, in Brightest Day...") We see Hal accept his ring in the palm of his hand. Quick shots of Hector Hammond screaming to camera as his head expands. Tim Robbins and Angela Bassett's Amanda Waller are in a top-secret lab, inspecting their patient. We get to see an alien autopsy of sorts, as a government surgeon removes something from the corpse of Abin Sur. A quick glimpse of Tomar-Re looking to camera, and then a shot of Hal being mugged at night. Here, the oath concludes as Hal's power ring makes a green fist that sends the muggers crashing into a brick wall. The last shot we see is maybe of the Planet Oa, as a column of green light surges from a very regal structure into space as Hal looks on - and we cut to the Green Lantern logo and the title card "Await Further Contact Summer 2011". My reaction? As a huge fan of Johns' epic and dramatic run on GL, I wanted to love this. But, for a first look at a very highly-anticipated movie, at Green Lantern's first trip to the big-screen - a trip set in a universe best described as Star Wars with cops - the panelists talked more to that end than what was shown onscreen. Sure, it's a teaser, but people camped out the night before for the clip. And it's Hall H. It's Comic-Con. The sold-out hall left the panel talking more about the unbelievable footage from Zack Snyder's epic and weird and wicked Sucker Punch than they did about Hal Jordan's first movie. The teaser didn't leave us with any jaw-dropping moments to gossip about, to take with us back to the watercooler. The only thing that left most of us amazed was the fact that the panel only screened the footage once. Perhaps Lantern should have closed the panel instead of opening it, to better ensure word of mouth? Geoff Johns said that the "success and scope of Green Lantern will lead the charge" for Warner Bros. in regards to adapting future DC properties. Having seen the footage, and leaving more excited by the scenes the director and cast talked about instead of teased visually, I hope that the future of both Hal Jordan and DC Entertainment is more Brightest Day than Blackest Night.
