Some 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ came to this earth to reset up his church, and to atone for our sins but that is not the end of it.

After his death and resurrection, the atonement was complete but the work was not and still is not done.

Every person that comes to this earth has to prove themselves. In the process they will sin, it is inevitable, none of us are perfect. From the time of Adam and Eve, countless billions of people came to this earth and knew nothing of Jesus Christ. Without that knowledge they cannot return to our heavenly father’s home.

Knowledge of Jesus’ doctrine gives us the ability to join him, be born again of water (baptized) and receive the Holy Ghost. In doing this we are prepared to help Jesus do his work by spreading the word and making baptism available to those here now and those that came before us.

One of the things that Jesus did when he came here was to set up that process. Now that he has done that it is up to every person on this earth who follows Jesus to pick up the ball and make the information available to all who would have it.

In a talk by President Boyd K. Packer he quoted President Joseph F Smith (1838-1918):

‘Jesus had not finished his work when his body was slain, neither did he finish it after his resurrection from the dead; although he had accomplished the purpose for which he then came to the earth, he had not fulfilled all his work. And when will he? Not until he has redeemed and saved every son and daughter of our father Adam that have been or ever will be born upon this earth to the end of time, except the sons of perdition. That is his mission. We will not finish our work until we have saved ourselves, and then not until we shall have saved all depending upon us; for we are to become saviors upon Mount Zion, as well as Christ. We are called to this mission.’

Let us join up with Jesus and help him accomplish his mission. We will be blessed for it on this earth and in the afterlife.

I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
