R'et is about six Turns younger than his sister Reba. He used to have a canine named Jate, but he died of old age in the night a few weeks before the Hatching that R'et, then Rebret, Impressed at. R'et still misses his canine, but he has Sehanath to help distract him from thoughts of his faithful canine pal, which helps.
For a long time, R'et just kind of drifted, unsure of what he wanted to do with his life, and his parents allowed him to do so, keeping him in his bedroom in their apartments instead of kicking him out. It wasn't until R'et saw his sister Reba Impress her Tenalth that he really felt like he hadn't done anything with his life, and from then on, he studied under his handyman father to learn what he could and then became a handyman himself. He had trouble finding a job in overcrowded Brightcliff Hold, however, and when Reba announced that she would be moving to Storm Fires Weyr when she was graduated, in order to be that much closer to her family, R'et jumped at the idea and talked his parents and their best friends into moving to Falling Sky Hold, which was starting up and needed new people as well as being located right next to Storm Fires Weyr.
There he was able to find work, but he still lived with his parents. You see, R'et used to suffer from a mild case of anxiety. He was certain that he would always be in trouble, and thus when anyone with any type of authority called on him, he clammed up with nerves and would end up looking like he didn't know anything or wasn't paying attention, which wasn't the case at all. The idea of being out on his own, dependent upon his own skills and nothing else in order to get his meals, was a scary thought. So he avoided that anxiety by staying with his parents. When he was Searched after Jate's death, he moved out though, because the Weyr takes care of a candidate's meals and clothes. This gaves him a measure of freedom that he didn't have before, yet still gaves him a sense of security. Now that he's Impressed Sehanath, he need never worry about going hungry or without food and clothing again, so this is a good thing for him.
He'll still have to get over his anxiety around authority figures, but with Sehanath beside him, I'm sure that he will overcome this obstacle in time. His placement in the Weyrleader's Wing can't hurt with this goal. :)
