A Letter of Memorial from Regina, Jason's Girlfriend
5/10/01
To the Schaaf Family and Friends,
Every teacher I ever had to write a paper for would say that the opening paragraph was the most important and it was the one that would determine whether your audience would have an interest in what you had to say or not. As I sat in front of my computer with the blank page in front of me I knew I would want this to be a story I'd want everyone to remember.
I believe that every person that enters our lives has a purpose and is something we will treasure. When I first met Jason, I knew this guy was someone that would always have a place in my heart. Jason always had a way of making me feel like a million bucks no matter what mood I was in. He had this smile that as soon as I saw it everything was fine no matter what. I finally had my reason to survive Spanish first period everyday so I could see him after it. We would talk everyday and we have our parent's phone bills to prove it, about everything that came up in our lives friends, family, sports and everything else that teenagers talk about. He was always so supportive of everything I wanted to do. Like when I started track and at one point I wanted to quit because I just didn't see the progress I was making, Jason would say that it was worth it in the end no matter what, and he was proud of me for sticking with it.
When I met Jason's family, I knew why he turned out to be such a fun, smart and happy person to be around. The first time I went to their house, I never felt so welcomed by anyone as they made me feel. I knew they were a great family because they reminded me of my own. Jason and I would laugh because we couldn't believe how much they were alike. Well there was one thing I knew I had different from him and that was the number of cousins I told him I had one day. It was right around Easter when I asked him if he wanted to come over my grandparents and meet the crew of about 25 relatives not including aunts and uncles. He, of course had no problem with going and did great with them. He was like that, an easy going open minded great boyfriend.
I could go on and on with all these things Jason did that made my sophomore year great but I think you all know that because he touched all of us in that special way. I am so thankful for everything he gave me and all the memories we had together. That's how I will always remember Jason, someone who will always stay forever in my heart.
Thank you all for everything you've done for me. Your support and love is something I will never forget especially when you gave it to me when I needed it the most in my life.
Love, Regina
