My daughter is adopted. The Dr. 's also said she wouldn't do anything and tried to discourage us from adopting her. I could see by the look in her eyes she understood everything even though she was just 10 months old at the time. She is 5 now. She is really trying to talk. She feeds herself, walks with a gait trainer and has a fabulous sense of humor. She loves to play ball. I think a lot of the improvement is the parents outlook. We never think our child is limited. The sky is the limit. Some of the people I run into with handicapped kids act so depressed. You know this has to rub off on the kids. My daughter was going to a special school for kids with disabilities but I took her out and am planning to enroll her in regular kindergarten next fall in full inclusion. I know it might be hard but she is quite capable of learning and wants to. Jeanie in San Diego. Garnet2520@aol.com
I have a 5 year old daughter with CP. Marie was born prematurely and we
believe that is what caused the CP. At one years old all she could do
was roll over, now she is taking unaided steps. She also uses a walker,
she has no speech problems, and she is mainstreamed at school. Through
all her life trials she has always worn a smile, sometimes so big that
it keeps her from talking, she is the greatest joy in my life. From the
minute she was born at 2 pounds 7 ounces her dad and I knew that she
would never give up, and she hasn't. We hope by next year she will be
walking unaided all the time. I believe that God dosen't give you
anything that you can not handle, this has made me stronger and wiser.
Thank you,

MY NAME IS LANI, I HAVE A 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER NAMED RUBY. RUBY STARTED WALKING AT 3 YEARS OLD, AND IN ONE DAY. SHE TOOK NO FIRST STEPS, SHE JUST DECIDED TO WALK AND SHE DID.RUBY DOES NOT TALK YET, BUT I’M SURE SHE WILL SOON. SHE IS VERY EAGER TO LEARN, SHE COPYS EVERY THING SHE SEE'S. RUBY IS ALSO TAKING MEDICATION FOR, WHAT THEY CALL "RAGE SEIZURES". RAISING A CHILD WITH CP IS NOT AN EASY JOB, SHE KEEPS ME ON MY TOES, THAT’S FOR SURE. BUT SHES MY LITTLE ANGEL, SENT DOWN TO DO A JOB. I WILL ADMIT, AS A BABY WHEN I FIRST FOUND OUT SHE HAD CP, I WAS DEPRESSED BUT, THEN I STARTED WATCHING HOW SHE AFFECTED OTHER PEOPLE.EVEN WHEN I WENT SHOPPING AND SHE WOULD BE SITTING IN THE BASKET, AS THE CASHIER WOULD PULL HER THROUGH, SHE WOULD REACH UP AND GIVE THEM A BIG HUG! THEY WERE SURPRISED AT FIRST, BUT IT ALWAYS PUT A SMILE ON THEIR FACES. RUBY IS JUST SO FULL OF HAPPINESS, EVERYONE WHO MEETS HER JUST LOVES HER. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM OTHER PARENTS, AND SHARE STORIES AND IDEAS. CRUZIN90@AOL.COM
