The Wings defended their cup but werent successful like the last two years. The Dallas Stars won the Cup this Year Congradulations to the Stars. I moved in october to Vermont so i havent had the best opportunities to watch the Red Wings But i still keep up to date most of the time (Thank You-- to the Detroit Red Wings Hockey Page And Chat Room for helping me keep up to date). The 1998 Stanley Cup Playoffs--their been some major upsets. You thought New Jersey was going to be a contender to win the cup. Well Guess again they were knocked out of the playoffs by the eighth seeded team Ottawa Senators. That wasn't the only major upset Philadelphia, and Colorado were also knocked out of the Playoffs.
In the 1997 Stanley Cup Playoffs the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup, ending 42 years of frustration. In the 1998 Stanley Cup Playoffs the Red Wings are playing to Defend their Stanley Cup and to Repeat as the Stanley Cup champions. The Detroit Red Wings will take on the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals. Who Won??
Who Will Win The Stanley Cup this year?
All these questions were answered as of June 16th, 1998, the Detroit Red Wings beat the Dallas to win their second Western Confernce Final and return to the finals where they played the Washington Capitals to defend their Cup. The Capitals gave the Red Wings a run for there money but in the end no one could beat the Detroit Red Wings and they won their second consecutive cup.
