I was just gonna' get a few things from the store She was just walking out when I got to the door I couldn't help but turn around and stare I wonder if she even knew I was there Well she walked away without a care and now she's gone It was a chance encounter I should've acted upon Between shy resistance And lack of persistence To go the distance I continue on solo existence Every time I see her I feel I could die Instead of doing something, I just let her pass by After all I'm just a regular guy She's probably looking for a man that's been in the sky Whenever we cross paths she passes by and then she's gone Another encounter I should've acted upon Between shy resistance And lack of persistence To go the distance I'm on this solo existence Her smile takes my heart and runs it down the road Till she's gone, it breaks down and it needs to be towed Her eyes become these stars so bright That shine above in the summer night But faster than a satellite, she passes by and then she's gone The third encounter I should've acted upon Between shy resistance And lack of persistence To go the distance I continue this solo existence Well the third time didn't work like a charm The last time I saw her she was in some guy's arms It made me feel like a lonely rotting leaf To see her around with that dignity thief I'm over my head in caustic grief, now that she's forever gone But I had the chances I should've acted upon Between my shy resistance And lack of persistence To go the distance I 'm living a solo existence I wrote the first stanza at my grandma's house. I was thinking about all the times I wanted to tell this girl how I felt about her, but could never do it. I never did either, and it's really too late now! Ha. Man, it is a hard thing to do. Consequences and results can strike fear! The title refers to the four main parts, but there are the...chorus-like parts, and that is the "etc."
