GREAT DEPRESSION- FROM U.S. HISTORY CLASS

Once upon a time ago
the stock market
was on the go
the bills were paid
and games were played
a lot of people had it made

For the most part things
were going great
but they did not anticipate
the numbers and
their falling rate
which led up to an awful fate

People continued
to wine and dine
without knowing that
on October twenty-nine
the stock market numbers
would rapidly decline

It was a terrible session
of unbelievable repression
that we now call
"The Great Depression"

Many people moaned and groaned
some felt they were
all alone, and
some turned to crime
like Al Capone

People grieved over
the market’s fall
but some had faith
walked hopeful and tall
whereas some decided
to end it all

The public knew
when they first felt
the situation would
best be dealt
by Franklin Delano Roosevelt

He was a different politician
who went by intuition
and he did what some were wishin’
by repealing prohibition

People drank
lined up file and rank
to withdraw their money
from the bank

Because of their financial lack
some people went to the racing track
in order to win
some money back

F.D.R. had to think
besides the drink
and find some other
common link

Well, as it would reveal
on any newsreel
he established a thing
he dubbed "the New Deal"

It helped settle the storm
and helped their norm
the objectives were
relief, recovery, and reform

Programs were started
debts were discarded
it even helped things
they had disregarded

F.D.R. may have been old
but he was quite bold
he made currency no longer
redeemable in gold

"The New Deal" helped the nation
that was derailed
in some ways it succeeded
in some ways it failed
but all in all
it had prevailed
