ESTIMATED/ UNDERESTIMATED JAKE

Jake was brought up to be a very successfull man
to be a millionaire was his parent's general plan
"You'll be very much respected and well fed," his father said
"You'll be well-known," his mother said every night, as she put him to bed
Jake's parents dreamed of his future success
"He'll be loved by many, and a target for the press"
"He'll have a yacht and a mansion with a two-car garage"
"He'll own a lakefront, summer home and a mountain lodge"

Although his parents had high expectations
some people laughed at their contemplations
when Jake's older pessamistic relatives came into town
they told his parents not to get their hopes up, they'll just be let down
"That family of Jake's, nothing but flakes, the kid won't have what it takes"
urban nabobs say as they throw to the needy the bones of their steaks

Oh, The things he'll have to forsake
to prove to them he's not a flake
a task to undertake
estimated, underestimated Jake

As Jake was going to school, his father was precise
more than twice he'd repeated his choice advice
"If you ever do wrong and you're completely bereft
If you ever do bad and you have nothing left
you can always turn right
before you reach the red light
his mother said, "we don't mean to push you so hard
but we'd really like to see all A's on your card"

Although his parents had high expectations
some people disbelieved their contemplations
when Jake's parents visited the school
the teacher's said he's a perfect student, never broken a rule
but when they're alone they changed their tone
and said "Jake's too gullible, he'll be in debt by the time he's full grown"

Oh, the thing's he'll have to forsake
to prove that he's not a flake
a task to undertake
estimated, underestimated Jake

Well, Jake graduated barely on the honor roll
His mother said "that's fine, but remember your goal"
his father told him "college is the next step to success
I know you'll do good, but beware of the stress"
Jake entered college with high chance taking loans
and he worked his fingers right down to their bones
he gave it his all and he passed every class
jumped through a mirror without being cut by the glass

Although his parents had high expectations
some people doubted their contemplations
the neighbors thought Jake going to college was hard to believe
they said, "he won't finish, he's too naive"
they figured he had done all that he was able
holding him no higher than a man sitting on a legless table

Oh, the things he'll have to forsake
to prove to them he's not a fake
a task to undertake
much debated, underestimated Jake

Despite the other people's disbelief
Jake ignored them and found relief
and he waves to them each time he leaves his two-car garage
when he leaves his mansion to go to his mountain lodge
or when he goes to his summer home on the lake front to ride on his yacht
there's only one thing that Jake hasn't caught
it's the illness that is commonly known as greed
he gives many donations to those who are in need

Although his parent's had high expectations
and some people doubted their contemplations
he became a success using what he learned
he surpassed the amount that the disbelievers earned
the former downtalkers are now calling him sir
it's funny once he got money they weren't judging his as they once were

Oh the things he had to forsake
to prove he's not a fake
it was a task to undertake
the much-awaited, underestimated Jake

I started writing this at my Uncle's house. I have no idea where this came
from. I don't even really know anyone named Jake. I just wanted to write a
"story" about someone who became a success despite what other people thought.
It isn't based on myself either, because few people know where I hold my future.
In fact I don't think anyone knows where my future is. People who only know me
in class and from high school would be kind of surprised. This resembles me in
that I'm going to college with loans, but, this doesn't have anything
significant to do with myself.
