PICKING UP THE PACE

Shoreline rocks picked up at dawn
Tossed to sea before too long
The ships come and go
Some fast, some slow
What this means I do not know
Telephones picked up at ring
We always seem to use that thing
Taxi cabs and busses boarded
Some alone, some escorted
Sometimes things are not rewarded

Pick up the pace
stare death in the face
makin' our way
through the day
tryin' to find our place
by picking up the pace

Groceries picked up when needed
Paychecks can make one be conceited
Money can be in tens and twenties
Ones, fives, hundreds and fifties
But it goes fast no matter what it is
Suspects are picked up when caught
If there's too much danger, they are shot
Decoding the language we don't all use
To make sure that we're not refused
By the one percent who tend to abuse

Pick up the pace
stare death in the face
makin' our way
through the day
tryin' to make some space
by picking up the pace

Some things are picked up when they fall
others can't even fall at all
they might be found
but they're kicked around
and they never leave the ground
Garbage is picked up Monday morning
Illness comes without a warning
Learning to live with all that's here
Time to stop and limit fear
For we all shed the same kind tear

pick up the pace
stare death in the face
makin' our way
through the day
tryin' to win the race
by picking up the pace
