Claw Trimming
After a while you will notice that your iguana is scratching your furniture and tearing at your skin. This is a sign that it's time to clip those claws! This may require two people. There are special nail clippers available for this job in just about every pet store (I highly recommend using these instead of scissors!). You may want to wrap your iguana up in a towel to prevent being scratched until it gets used to having it's nails clipped. Gently extend the iguana's paw out and clip only the outer edge of the nail. Avoid over-clipping which results in bleeding.
In that case, use a syptic pencil, or quick-stop powder to stop the bleeding.
It may be a hectic experience at first! I recommend that you watch an experience person (such as your reptile veterinarian) clip your iguana's nails first, and then try it yourself. In time nail trimming will become a regular practice that will save you and your furniture some wear.
