Salmonella

It is true that some iguanas carry Salmonella bacteria. This bacteria can be very dangerous to some people, precations should be taken before any contact with an iguana or its environment occurs. People most at risk of illness are unborn babies, young children, elder people, and people with immune system deficiencies. The best way to ensure that no bacterial infections occur is to wash your hands after any contact with an iguana or its environment with an anti-bacterial soap and the use of a hand sanitizer. The terrarium should be kept clean and free of wastes and uneaten food to reduce bacterial growth. Salmonella can be a deadly bacteria so please protect yourelf, your family, and your iguana, by properly cleaning your iguana's enclosure along with routine hand washing.
