Taming
Iguanas are not social animals in nature. They are solitary reptiles that are not used to human contact. At first your iguana may not let you handle it because you are seen as a potential predator trying to eat him/her. Start by gently reaching into the terrarium, slowly, and petting your iguana on the head and sides.
Your iguana may whip or bite at you at first, but in time you'll gain trust. The keys are patience and understanding. After your iguana is comfortable with light petting, try picking it up slowly, but firmly, and letting him/her rest on your lap while being petted.
Let your iguana walk through your hands after it is comfortable being held. Try washing any salts or dried foods that may be on your iguanas face, this will not only keep it cleaner, it will
gain more trust in you. Try not to be impatient with your iguana. It may take several months to tame your nervous iguana, but don't despair, with a dedicated effort you'll soon have a wonderfull companion.
