Molly Shannon returns to "Saturday Night Live" for her sixth season as a member of the cast.

Since joining "SNL" in early 1995, Shannon has received considerable recognition for the eclectic and unforgettable characters and impressions she has brought to the show. Among the most popular are: the nervous Catholic schoolgirl, Mary Katherine Gallagher; Terry Rialto, co-host of the fictitious National Public Radio show "Delicious Dish;" licensed "joyologist" Helen Madden; "Dog Show" co-host Miss Colleen; Circe Nightshade of "Goth Talk;" as well as her impressions of Courtney Love, "The View's" Meredith Vieira, Liza Minnelli and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

She will soon star in the comedy "Superstar," in which she brings her popular SNL character Mary Katherine Gallagher to the big screen. She is currently in production as "Betty Lou Who" opposite Jim Carrey in the live-action feature film version of the Dr. Seuss classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Shannon was most recently seen in the comedy "Never Been Kissed" opposite Drew Barrymore.

She has also appeared in a brief but memorable role in "Analyze This," opposite Billy Crystal. She also had a cameo role in the critically acclaimed independent film "Happiness." She made her starring debut in the comedy "A Night at the Roxbury," with "SNL" co-stars Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan.

Prior to joining "SNL," Shannon appeared in "The Rob and Molly Show," a comedy show at the Up Front Comedy Theater in Los Angeles, which she co-wrote with Rob Muir. Shannon's additional television credits include guest starring roles on NBC's "Seinfeld" and "Will & Grace," as well as on "The John Larroquette Show," "Twin Peaks" and "Ellen."

Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Shannon earned a B.F.A. in drama from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She currently lives in Los Angeles and New York.
