Page one....

A few years later, I found myself gliding over the hot currents of the
volcanic island chain 'N'shal Tovat' when I heard the sounds of battle
between humans and.... dragons? I had to find out if it was another of my
kind.

As I circled lower towards the noise, a glinting hide of gold scales
became clear and the figure was definately that of my own kind. It was being
attacked and somehow I felt inclined to save it. When the last of the cloud
cover was cleared, I was shocked to see not only humans but creatures that
looked human, an entire army all attacking a group of dragons, several pale
brown dragons were already on their last leg or dead, and the few remaining
ones weren't doing so well, the gold was the obviously the army's intent,
but why? I sensed great fear from her and again instinct was forcing me to
come to their aid. Enraged, I dove towards the middle of this evil army,
lashing about with more fury than ever before. I heard several cries and
confusion had broken out. "It's a red! You said they don't come near her at
time!" A voice rang out,"This one did!" A second replied to it. "They aren't
SUPPOSED to! This one must be wild!" First voice (now I am heading towards
them, still slaughtering left and right, the voices coincidentally closest
to the gold, perhaps the leaders) "Wild? Red's aren't wild! You-- AARRGH!"
I grinned as I slit through the man's chest, then glared at him and said

"You talk to much." I had finally cleared a path through the creatures to
the gold, and the last of the pale dragons were very appreciative of my help.

I counted, and between me, the gold, and the remaining pale-browns,
there were 6 remaining dragons, but I sensed the gold couldn't fight, and
that somehow the pale's wouldn't be much help, seeing how there were 20
scattered along the beach, when I alone took out at least a third of them.
I wheeled around smugly to face a regrouping horde and quickly lost all
pride as fear sprang into my body, there will still hundreds left, and not
many humans, but many trolls, ogres, imps, ang giants, all armed to the
teeth and regrouping from the sudden surprise. Then suddenly I felt the
presence of the gold, and the fear left as quickly as it had entered, being
refilled with a need to protect it. So when they had finally gathered up and
attacked, I met them head on using every ounce of energy I had to fight and
flame the oncoming forces. Strange, I thought, but my power seemed to
amplify and through my instinct knew the gold was to thankl for it, so I
continued to hold them off and soon started to retaliate, it was not long
before some became afraid and even run away, but there were more vetrans
remaining who were still ready to fight and kill the gold, so I did not
break into chase. Arrows and lances whistled through my wings, massive
swords and axes cut through my tough hide, but I felt the urge to protect
still more and the pain was unnoticable, so I raged on and after what seemed
like an eternity it was over. The last remaining souls either running away
or on their way to the next life. The marks of battle shown clearly over my
body, but they were now begining to take their toll and I collapsed in front
of the glimmering gold and passed out.

I awoke to several pale's hovering over me, the pain had subsided and
my body was fully healed. "come" they said in a collective voice and I was
led to the gold, who was now much more confident and encouraged me to come
to it. When I finally was in front of it, the pale browns left abruptly back
to their chores and I was alone with it. Several times larger than I was, I
felt very timid, but then a feminine voice reassured me with a simple "thank
you." She lowered her head to make eye contact with me, the black obsidian
eyes sparkling in the glaring sun and continued. "for saving me and my
children."

Over the next few weeks, I stayed with the gold on the island, who
turned out to be aqueen named Tiamat, and hunted for her and the pale-
browns while searching for the remaining members of the attack. I learned
that they were after her eggs, and she was in the middle of laying them when
they attacked. The pale-browns were nursemaids which explained my speedy
recovery and why so many of them were destroyed, and I also learned that my
color, red, indicated that I was a protector of the queen, which explained
the rest of the battle. They were originally from another dimension and this
was the main laying grounds where the eggs stayed until they were hard
enough to go back to their own, who had a more hostile atmosphere. When the
eggs had hardened, a group of black dragons 'ported in from their dimension
and carefully put the eggs in pouches designed for their travel. I was
invited and accepted to go back their, my, original dimension, so after
being taught how, I 'ported myself into the next phase of my life.

go back!
