Will of WILLIAM BREWSTER, written 4-SEPT-1815 at Openheim, Montgomery County, New York
"In the name of God amen I WILLIAM BREWSTER of the town of Openheim in the County of Montgomery and State of New York considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory blessed be God for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (viz) First, I allow my beloved wife ABIGAIL BREWSTER what the Law will give her only then I do give and bequeath to my oldest son MORRIS T. BREWSTER my surveying books and my [text unreadable] or [text unreadable] magazine and surveying instruments. I do also give and bequeath to my daughter JULIA WORDEN my [text unreadable] looking glass and largest tea server, also I give and bequeath to my son ISAAC W. BREWSTER fifty dollars in cash, also I give and bequeath to my son JONAS C. BREWSTER twenty five dollars in cash. All the above mentioned Legacies I order to be paid six months after my decease, then I will and order that all my monies due to me shall immediately after my decease be collected and all my debts paid, and then I will and order that a true valuation and estimate of the residues of my estate real and personal shall be made and that sum divided into twelve equal parts. I do also will and order that three of those parts shall be paid to my son MORRIS and one part and a half to my daughter JULIA and two parts to my son ISAAC and one part and a half to my son JONAS, and one part to my son WILLIAM R. BREWSTER, and one part to my son CHARLES G. BREWSTER, and one part to my son HARVEY BREWSTER, and one part to my daughter MYRA BREWSTER. I do also will and order that my heirs who shall have [text unreadable] to [text unreadable] shall hold a general counsel and if on mature deliberation they do think and agree it is best to sell my real estate I do hereby authorize and order my Executors to be hereinafter appointed to sell the same as soon as they can to the best advantage and to give the purchaser a good deed for the same. I do also will and order that the [text unreadable] of my estate bequeathed to those as my heirs who may be under age at my decease shall be put to interest by my Executors within six months after my decease for their benefit and be paid to them on their coming to lawful age except my daughter MYRA at eighteen years of age, and if any of them require more expense than they earn for education [text unreadable] it must be charged on account [text unreadable]. I do also enjoin it upon my Executors to attend to the bringing up and providing for my young children so that finally they may be able to get their own living and if any of them die under age their portions must be equally divided among the survivors, and I do hereby authorize and appoint my son MORRIS T. BREWSTER and my son in law SAMUEL H. WORDEN executors to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fourth day of September 1815.
