Well, this is a story about a pack of crayons! One of my most favorite things the LORD did in my daughter Shelly's life, and mine as well!
My daughter was in second grade. And you know how kids are. They come home complaining about things......Well Shelly had been coming home the last several weeks saying that a little girl was stealing her crayons. I overlooked it at first...said the standard things... like "tell your teacher"....and "ask her not to take them"... (and ofcourse bought her new crayons!) which she had done.. all to no avail.. Then she came home crying! Well... now you know how we moms are when our cubs are crying! The girl had stolen the crayons again! Okay i thought .. i am fed up.. my bunny ( i always called them bunnies when they were little) is crying... i am tired of doling out crayon money(we were a bit poor)... and i am storming up to that teacher and finding out what is going on! DON'T MESS WITH MY BABY!!..Well that was what i planned on saying. Funny how all those motherly killer instincts just rise to the top! Well...i started to just get fumed...and suddenly... I remembered that phrase that i had been taught..."it is not the situation that God is most interested in... but your reaction to the situation!... Hmmmmm ....had to calm down and think on that a while.. Okay.. i won't go fumming up to the school like a roaring lion. But Lord, what will we do? Then He gave me the answer! We will buy the little girl some new crayons! I said "What! What did you say Lord?"
Buy her crayons! Well she already has a whole bunch she stole!....But, I had to listen to HIM . Okay... we will buy her some crayons (rolling my eyes). So we got Shelly a new pack and the little girl a new pack.
Shelly took them to school with her the next day... I had almost forgotten about it til she came home just so excited. "MOM" she howled.. "it was so cool... she (the little girl) just looked at me.. and said she had never had a new pack of crayons of her very own before!" Ahhh.... now i was understanding what the LORD was doing. Love.. He was teaching us love.. unconditionally... just because love... that is what touches a heart.. the just because stuff... Now i was on my knees... thanking the LORD for such a blessing.. The little girl never stole Shelly's crayons again. They became friends.... We may never know how much that little thing meant in that young girls life..Or how much just that little thing trickles into alot of other things.. but trust me.. one little event.. can ripple a long way on a little pond.
We learned a wonderful, awesome lesson. How to give out of a need.
We learned to listen to our Father... and our faith and trust in HIM was strenghtened!
We learned that blessing another ....was a blessing to us!
And to think....all that over a pack of crayons!
Well Amen!! Praise the LORD!!
