Objective B:
Without the use of the course text or class notes, the student will identify the responsibilities of the investigator.

Criminal investigations are conducted by investigators. While the title of the person conducting the investigative function may vary (detective, special agent, etc.), they are still investigators.

investigator -
A person who conducts investigations.

Responsibilities of the investigator:

• Determine whether a crime has been committed
  
• Decide if the crime was committed in the investigator's jurisdiction
  
• Discover all facts pertaining to the crime
  
• Recover stolen property
  
• Identify the perpetrator or eliminate a suspect as the perpetrator
  
• Locate and apprehend the perpetrator
  
• Aid in the prosecution of the offender by providing evidence of guilt that is admissible in court
  
• Testify effectively as a witness in court
