Prayers

I prayed to the Lord
to give me a sign--
was he supposed to be the one?
was love supposed to feel like this?
I prayed to God every day
to guide my feet down the path,
to show me whether this was right.

But I forgot to pray for
the courage to open my eyes,
the strength to walk alone.
