~my ALASKAN winter~

WINTER in Alaska is as advertised, but the rollercoaster temperatures were not expected. I have witnessed temperatures down to -49F and then a day later it may be +20F. Strange weather.

We got a lot of snow early in the winter here in Fairbanks, but it continues here and there with only a tad bit melting away when we reached +41F for a day.

Me and my co-workers, Tija and Paul at -36F!

Leading up to December 22 the sun was going down, down, down into the sky until we less than 4 hours of daylight, but once that day passed the sunlight started increasing day by day and it feels Grrrrrrrrreat!

Yukon Quest - Dogsled Racing

The most heard of dogsled race in Alaska is the Idarod, but here in Fairbanks the Yukon Quest starts and ends in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada.

ICE SCULPTURES EVERYWHERE...

Hee in Fairbanks they will have the World Ice Carving Championships in March. Until then, we have random sculptures appearing all over town. Check back later in the winter to see some incredible ice carvings...

Various Other Places...

Every year in Nenana, they have a contest where everyone guesses when the black and white structure will fall into the river - when the ice breaks up.

Large barges move throughout interior Alaska during the summer months to deliver goods to many communities.
