The largest dinosaurs that ever lived, the sauropods, include such well-known forms as Brontosaurus - Apatosaurus from North America, Mamenchisaurus from China and Rhoetosaurus from Australia.

Although their bones are known from every continent except Antarctica, their eggs are known from only three places: The Peoples' Republic of Mongolia, Provence (France) and Patagonia, Argentina.

The eggs in this exhibition from Mongolia were laid in a depression scooped out of sand.

Examination of the microstructure of the eggshell indicates that the embryos died before the eggs hatched because the eggs were covered with water and the embryos drowned. In order for the embryos to obtain oxygen while in the egg, the surface of the shell was covered with 200,000-300,000 pores.

The volume of the individual eggs is 1.7-1.8 litres. (1.7 Liters = 57.48 Ounces or 0.449Gallons. / 1.8 Liters = 60.86 Ounces)

Tyrannosaurus / Tarbosaurus Egg cast replica

Tarbosaurus egg cast replica.

Geological strata: Kanoguo, XiXia Basin

Late Cretaceous

Discovered in Henan Providence, China.

Egg cast measures 16" long and over 7" wide. This is one of the largest Asian T-rex eggs ever found. Most large eggs are 12-14 inches long - this is over 2 inches longer!

The original fossil was in great condition due to the baby Tarbosaurus coming out of one end of the egg. While hatching, it did not destroy any of the egg shell and it hardened without collapsing or crushing the egg.

Tarbosaurus Egg cast

Tarbosaurus is the Asian T-rex and resembles T-rex in almost every way.

It was 46 ft long and had large teeth and claws. Tarbosaurus ate anything it desired. It may have had a longer skull than T-rex. Tarbosaurus laid its eggs in a spiral pattern nest.

Therizinosaurs (or segnosaurs) are theropod dinosaurs belonging to the clade Therizinosauroidea

The name therizinosaur is derived from the Greek therizo meaning "to reap" or "to cut off" and sauros meaning "lizard". The older name segnosaur is derived from Latin segnis meaning "slow" or "sluggish" and Greek sauros meaning "lizard".

Velociraptor Egg Clutch.

The size of 7" (for the egg) allows for the possibility that it could belong to an oviraptor, but there are differences (especially in the width) between the two.

The two main eggs had hatched with some shell present around the sides and bottom. The shell from the top was likely pressed down into the egg (below the top matrix).

We can also get you real fossil dinosaur eggs (we sell only legally obtained eggs), and also cast replicas of bird eggs (both modern and extinct) please inquire.
