Pokémon Stadium

What is Pokémon Stadium??? Well, it's an N64 game where you can battle pokémon in full, 3D color. It is really Japan's Pokémon Stadium 2. It comes packaged with an accessory called the Transfer Pak which can be used to battle with your Game Boy pokémon!!!

You can even play Stadium if you don't own Red, Blue, or Yellow. Pre-loaded onto the game are "rental pokémon", which you can use to battle with. The only problem is that they are fairly weak compared to other pokémon.

Pokémon Stadium will have many modes and accessories which you can use to do various things, such as organize items. Here is a list of all the ones known so far, along whith a brief description of each:

Gallery
This mode will let you take pictures of the pokémon you caught in the Game Boy game. You can transfer your pokémon to an arena where it will make certain poses. You can rotate the angle and zoom in and out. When it does the pose you want, take the picture! The game will hold 36 pictures. You can print your pictures out at Blockbuster just like in Snap!

Battle Now!
This mode lets you jump right into the action with rental pokémon only. You choose your team from a list of pokémon that are the same level as the opponent's. There are no rewards for this mode but it is helpful to learn the basics of the game.

VS Event Battle
This mode is basically a link battle in 3D, except that you can set battle and attack entry time limits. Players 1 and 2 select three pokémon to do battle. This mode does allow you to use your Game Boy pokémon. There are four levels to compete in:

Pika Cup: Your pokémon must be between the levels of 15 and 20 and must add up to no more than 50.

Petit cup: Your pokémon must be between the levels of 25 and 30, must add up to no more than 80, weigh 44 lbs. or less, and be 6'8" or smaller.

Poké Cup: Your pokémon must be between the levels of 50 and 55 and must add up to no more than 155.

Prime Cup: Your pokémon must be between the levels of 1 and 100.

Pokémon Stadium
This mode is basically the hub where you go to all the other modes in the game. It is like a world map screen with buildings representing the different modes.

GB Tower
This mode will let you play Pokémon Red, Blue, or Yellow on your N64. It will add a border and the games will have color (no more than color Game Boy), but otherwise there are no real improvements. Also, it will only work on those games, not Pokémon Pinball, and not any other games.

Kids Club
This mode has 9 four-player mini games, similar to the ones in Mario Party. The computer will make up the extra players if you don't have enough. The mini games are:
  • Magikarp's Splash
  • Clefairy Says
  • Run, Rattata Run
  • Snore War
  • Thundering Dynamo
  • Sushi Go-Round
  • Ekans' Hoop Hurl
  • Rock Harder
  • Dig! Dig! Dig!

Gym Leader Castle
This mode pits you against all the Gym Leaders in the game along with three "lesser" trainers each. After that you must face the elite four and your rival. You can use any pokémon you wish, but theirs will always be the same level as yours (Note: you can only use three pokémon). Here's the cool part. When you win, you are randomly awarded one of several rare pokémon. The possibilities are:
  • Bulbasaur
  • Charmander
  • Squirtle
  • Hitmonlee
  • Hitmonchan
  • Eevee
  • Omanyte
  • Kabuto

Pokémon Stadium
Ok, this is strange. Pokémon Stadium mode in the Pokémon Stadium map in the Pokémon Stadium game. This mode is the game's main attraction. There are four levels, one for each cup mentioned above. For the first two cups, you must face eight trainers. For the last two, you must face eight trainers in 4 divisions each: the Poké Ball division, the Great Ball division, the Ultra Ball division, and the Master Ball division. When you beat this mode, you will get to face Mewtwo.

The Pokémon Lab
This is a very handy mode that lets you do many different things. It has 4 "machines". The first lets you do the following:
  • Organize the pokémon in your party and in your boxes.
  • Check out detailed stats of each pokémon.
  • Store pokémon on your N64.
  • Organize your items in your inventory and in your box.
  • Easily see which attack a TM or HM teaches.
  • Store items on your N64.
That's just the first machine!!! The second machine lets you trade pokémon (Note: You need more than one transfer pak to do this). The third machine simply lets you select game paks. The fourth machine is basically an upgraded pokédex.

This concludes my examination of Pokémon Stadium. It certainly looks like it is going to be a cool game when it is released on Monday, March 6, 2000!!!

Most of this info came from www.ign.com, including the pictures. I don't own them, I am just using them.
