They Slowly Fall

Why are children killing children
all around the world?
Oh God, tell me
why we can't protect them all.
Why are children crying,
and why are children dying?
One by one, in the streets,
they slowly fall.

Why are children crying
in their sleep?
Nightmares and fear
get the best of them.
They count on us for so much,
but we only let them down.
Violence and anger strike again.
One by one, in the streets,
their lives come to an end.

So many children in this world,
and I want to hold them all.
I want to be there to pick them up
when I see them fall.
All the children that are struggling
and who feel alone,
into their shattered world
I want to put some hope.

It's sad to know there's an angry child
with hate inside his head,
masterminding massacres,
because he wishes he was dead.
He feels his life is not worth living,
and he wants to get revenge.
He thinks that he just can't fit in.
What message does this send??

Why must children die
when their lives have just begun?
How can they deserve this,
what could they have done?
There's no rhyme or reason,
no excuses, sad but true...
and if it's ever going to change,
it's up to us to do.
These are children killing children,
with the weapons we provide.
They grow up seeing knives and guns
that we don't try to hide.
Stop and think of what we've done...
the blame is on our side.

Oh, people of the world,
can't you hear them call...
as one by one in the streets
they slowly fall?
