Please visit our Shelter Page to learn more about our rescue!

Motor City Ferrets is a private-home, no-kill shelter and rescue service.  Our mission is to offer a safe haven and temporary home to ferrets that are no longer welcome in their home, regardless of the reason or the background of the ferret.  We then strive to find a loving, permanent home for all the ferrets we take in.  In other words, Motor City Ferrets is not a pet shop!  Our adoption process is designed to help critters that have already lost their home once find a forever home with responsible new parents.  Because we operate our rescue in our home, we do not have “business hours.”  MCF is run by two busy working people and we typically have anywhere from 10-30+ critters in our home at any given time, so our schedules are hectic.

All shelter business is conducted by appointment only, with one exception (see below).  To make an appointment to visit the rescue, contact us by phone or e-mail.  The best time / way to reach us is by phone after 8:00 p.m. Kindly do not call after 10:30 p.m.  As noted above, the Shelter operates in the private home of two working people.  You won't find our address published anywhere on the web site.  The reason is because we don't ever want to find any "surprises" left on our porch - something that sadly happens all the time around shelters.

Although we don't keep to a holiday schedule because we don't have public hours, and we certainly can't vacation often with so many charges always afoot, we do tend to be closed during the holidays.  Check in to our Events Calendar for more information about the Shelter's schedule.  We do have one occasion when no appointment is necessary for visiting the Shelter:  our Open House events.  Typically held on Sundays from 4:00 - 7:00, no appointment is necessary - just check out our Events Calendar for the dates. Then drop us a line so we can give you directions.  Make sure to call prior to Sunday, as Open House days are very busy for us and it's a challenge to return calls on that day.

If you have a ferret with a health issue, of course you are welcome to call to ask for advice.  But you should never contact us in lieu of proper advice from a veterinarian.  We maintain a list of Michigan's Ferret Veterinarians in the Health Section of our website.  And please, while this should go without saying, never e-mail if the matter is urgent!   No matter the concern...from a health issue, to you found a ferret in your yard, to your ferret is lost, etc.  Always call when the matter is urgent and, if you don't reach us immediately, leave a message detailing the situation, and don't forget to include your contact information!

If you're interested in adopting, your first step is a visit to our Adoptables Page, where you can meet the current candidates.  At the bottom of the page you'll find a link that takes you through several pages of information about the Shelter and adoption, then on to our Adoption Application.  Many of your initial questions will be answered in the information pages and you must submit an application to be considered for adoption.  Be as detailed as you can in your responses on the application, even if you find the questions confining.  Remember the application is designed to be used by everyone, from folks who've never had a ferret to folks who've had several over the years and have lots of experience.  A detailed application definitely expedites the adoption process!
