I recommend a FREE membership to flightsim.com for all the must have files you'll need. Again it's a free membership, however, due to the fact it's free, they only allow 2 hours of time per day. If you can't log in due to server nodes being busy, just keep trying...you'll get in within a few minutes if you're fast.

www.winzip.com--All files on my pages require a tool for "unzipping". Most new PCs come with a similar utility, however, if you need it...here it is.

FS98 patch set 1.0 Important Note: While this patch should work on all language versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator 98, it has only been completely tested with the English version. This self-extracting, self-installing file installs several modified files to correct known issues in Flight Simulator 98. This patch contains all of the Flight Simulator fixes that were included with the converter, plus several new fixes that are not included with the converter. The list of modified files and issues they addressed is included in the fspat1.txt file that the converter installs on your system. .

Converter (fs98 patch 2) (size: 1,515Kb) The Flight Shop Converter for Flight Simulator converts aircraft and adventures created with BAO Flight Shop into a format compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator 98. You need this file even when you don't want to convert planes or adventures to fs98!

aafwav.zip (size: 2,695Kb) This is the required file mentioned in the converter.txt. I found it on flightsim.com and it's the only place I know of that still has it.

FS98 patch 3 This file is intended to address the problem encountered in some configurations where Setup claims that approximately 4096 MB of free space is required to install the application

VOR fix (size: (29Kb) Extends the range of VOR's at high altitudes, by Basil Copeland. Unfortunately, databases I use no longer have anything from 1997, sooooo, you're gonna have to go to flightsim.com and search the file libraries for it there.
