BIO

a biography. (april 1999)
hamilton was formed at the end of 1996 and began playing shows the following summer. we were incredibly fortunate to have such good friends who helped us out in the begining. our first ever performance as hamilton was february 1997 in james' basement. about 10 people were in attendence, and the songs performed were nothing like the hamilton songs you would hear today. our first show was three months later with the shag van club at a venue that will remain nameless. if you were one of the lucky 20 or so in attendence, you had the fortune of whitnessing hamilton suck the most we have ever sucked. on a positive note, shag van played great. our next show was with wallside (probably our favorite band at that time) in grand haven. this was a great show, and grand haven would ultimately become our favorite place to play. third show, the legendary zoot's coffee and sound with wallside and thoughts of ionesco (the most amazing band). once again hamilton performs like shit, and i believe a guitar is broken. fourh show (i think) is with boy sets fire. how we got on that show i will never know. after this we began playing all over the state with relative consistency, still finding it hard to get on shows in detroit without the help of matt g., untill the io came along (great space, no kidding!) my favorite memories: three day tour with standing*8, paperback and the poke, playing michigan fest 1998, playing wallside's first and last shows of their 1997 tour, playing wallside's last show, brian joining the band, recording at the woodshed (where empathy recorded!!!) with tim pak, playing with ink and dagger, spending $1,200 on 300 seven inches and not giving a shit, playing in belleville, ontario with malakhai, summer tour 1999 and oh so many more. brian joined up the second week of may 1998, and we played our first show with him in toronto with standing*8 about two weeks later. we broke up for about two days in january 1999, and broke up for good in july of the same year. this band has meant so much to some of us, and has been one of the biggest parts of my life for the last two years. i will really miss it. -charley
