Chapter 2

The next day, Mrs. Hanson called me and wondered if I could baby-sit Jess, Mackie and Avie. Zac was also home, but she didn’t trust him as a baby-sitter. I mean, would you? Zac was almost 14, in October. And boy was he wild! He was always running, jumping, screaming, and doing about a million wacky things with his best friend, Jackie. She was just as wacky as Zac, and they were perfect for each other. But Ike was very serious about life. He finished his novel, finally. The printing company printed a whole book for him, so he could show it to companies. It was over 300 pages total, and Ike was very proud of it. I told Mrs. Hanson that I would be over in 5 minutes. I got changed, grabbed a book and walked over to their house. Mrs. Hanson ran out the door, saying she’d back at 7. I walked into the house and shut the door. And I when I say that the Hanson house is wild, I’m never wrong. Zac was on the floor, sprawled out, while Jess and Avie were sitting on his back. Mackie was on the floor, eating something he probably found under the couch. He was always eating candy. I picked him up and took the candy out of his mouth and threw it in the trash. I then put him on the couch, while I yanked Avie and Jess off of poor Zac. I then helped him up and sat down on the couch next to Mackie. Everyone else sat down on the couch and immediately began to fight. “Zac, your squishing me!” Jess complained as Zac leaned on her. “Zac, go play with your little girlfriend,” Avie teased. “I will!” Zac stormed into the kitchen to call Jackie. I played Scrabble with Avie and Jess for about an hour, while Mackie took a nap. They then went upstairs to get their suits on. I watched them for about 2 hours while they splashed around in their pool. I had just finished the first part of my book when I heard Mackie crying. I ran upstairs and brought him outside with 4 popsicles. I gave the pool fanatics each one. Then I helped Mackie with opening his and ate mine. Then everyone went back in the house and watched TV for awhile. Me and Mackie did this cow puzzle that had 20 pieces, but took forever cause Mackie insisted he knew where they all went. I was totally shot by the time Mrs. Hanson had come back. She gave me $5 extra for being late. I walked home, singing some silly song that Mackie had told me, “Even though, through the snow, he finds his way, today, or any day, to me. He’s the walalbacky-sisamookey-funkdefied-pleoopiedoopie.” I stopped, and started cracking up once I saw the look on Tay’s face as he drove up to me. “AHHHHHH, Mackie has another person under his spell of the walalbacky-sisamookey-funkdefied-pleoopiedoopie song!” “Yeah, maybe it’ll be the next hit on the radio!” I said, cracking up. Tay looked funny with that black eye, but I didn’t tell him this cause he was still embarrassed that I fought the guy at the restaurant, while he just laid there. As I stared into his eyes, I sensed there was something on his mind.
