Today, I am very happy to say, I am alive. But I wasn't destined to live this long. My life was supposed to end 12 years ago, when I was 17. I lived an ordinary life and was an ordinary girl. My name is Melany. Like I said, I was a pretty ordinary girl, but one day, all that changed...... I was walking along the many shops that boardered Main Street in downtown Du Bois Pennsylvania. Du Bois is a small town where everyone knows everyone else. I, for one, did not like that. I mean, don't you think it would be creepy knowing that one day, the person you thought you knew so well, could be stalking you? Sorry, sometimes I let my imagination go a little wild. I guess that's why I like writing suspense stories; I can always keep the reader on the edge of their seat! But what I'm about to tell you i far from being fictional, it's the whole truth. Unlike most girls my age, I was not into shopping for clothes, like Sydney, or shopping for shoes, like Brandon, or even looking for a good book, like Avery. I prefered pawn shops or thrift stores. You could easily say I was short on cash and always looked for the best buys. Sydney Carleson, Brandi (that was Brandon's nickname all threw grade school) Tesh and Avery (we called her Avie for short) Giffen were my best friends threw high school. We did everything together! We were known as the '4 Shopetteers.' But today I was shopping alone. I wasn't looking for just anything. The Salvation Army had called me earlier and told me that they had a VCR in they thought I would like. I hoped it was like what I wanted because I couldn't afford to go out and buy a new one! "Hi, Mrs. Milford. Do you have the VCR?" I asked when I saw the woman. She was a fairly attracktive woman, about 40 years old. She was happily married with two children, Emily, who was 12, and Michael, who was 9. "It's right over here. Do you want it in a box?" she asked, walking over to the counter. "Yes. How much will it cost?" "It's going to come to fifteen dollars, with tax." "Wow! Are you sure? I mean, that's like 1/4 the orice I would pay for a brand new one!" I exclaimed. "Yes, I'm sure," she said, ringing up the price in the cash register. "Thanks, Mrs. Milford," I said handing her the money. "Thank-you, Mel. Hope to see you soon!"
