The Best Things In Life Are Worth Waiting For! It can be so easy to forget that our Motorhead Friends throughout Europe have been Our friend Tom has "Super Tweaked" his 74 SD Trans-Am & has done so much, it's hard to know where to start. Going with a mild 224/230 Comp Roller Cam and sticking with the low compression of the original heads, This set up has provided him with the good streetability and low to mid-range punch he was hoping for. On street tires, this gave him a 13.8 second ET however, he was unable to get traction. Tom’s new brake set up is a HUGE step in the right direction. I know from my own experience, the brakes on a 74 Trans-Am are horrible…to say the least. MORE TO COME!! Introducing Tom Stuemmler and his Super Hot Super Duty Trans-Am.
doing the "Tweak" for as long as we have. In fact, I remember a time back in the late 60s, on a family
vacation to Malta, when my cousin was driving me around the island in a souped up Morris Mini-Minor.
It was not exactly a Super Duty but let me tell ya, it was every bit as fun!
But as Great Grandfather Alfonse Sode was quoted as saying in the play "Escanaba In Da Moonlight"....
"When ya don’t know where to start, go back to da beginnin'!"
Tom’s SD was reading 345 HP at the rear wheels.
Even with that, his trap speed of 107 MPH indicates that with sticky rubber and a bit
of practice, high 12s are a definite possibility.
As Tom mentions, “When I shoot around a corner and suddenly there is a tractor on the road, I need good brakes!!!!”
No matter how hard he tries, he cannot get the new brakes to fade.
