MY ROTT'N PAGE
These mastiff type dogs were working dogs they were used to drive herds of cattle to market in a town called Rottweil Germany (hence the name). The cattle herders then put the money they raised from selling the cattle in a pouch around the dogs necks to ward off theives. The legend goes on to say that by 1905 there was only one rottweiler left in Rottweil...But then in 1920 they had gained popularity as police dogs. In 1931 the first rottie was admitted to the American Kennel Club. In the mid 70's they were a very uncommon breed of dog. By the 80's though they had a mediocre rise in popularity, but every year since 1992 they have been the second most popular breed in the United States. Rottie's are medium to large dogs with the males being larger than the females. They have great strength, agility and endurance. They are calm self confident dogs, and they have the inherent desire to protect their home and family. They are highly intelligent and trainable. Rottie Links
