- Futuristic Poetry - When I am Old . . . -

The following poetry
is modelled after the poem
called "Warning" by Jenny Joseph
that appears in the book
When I Am An Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple
- An Anthology of Short Stories and Poetry*

We hope you enjoy reading them
as much as we enjoyed writing them
and sending them to our keypals.

MY FUTURE CAREERS
HOCKEY PLAYER

When I am older I will be a great hockey player in world history.
I will blank every NHL team and be the best goalie ever, even better than Dominik Hasek.
If I do not succeed, tell me and I will try to improve on it.
But if I still can't improve on it, then tell me to go get a different job
and never even go and try playing hockey ever again.

Brad

MY FUTURE

When I am old I will be a great designer.
I shall be world reknown.
My designs will be constantly inhabited.
I will own millions.
If I don't succeed in my studies my dreams will disappear.
A simple low grade could mean the difference between succees and defeat.
It all starts in kindergarten.
Doodling on scrap paper for fun could progress into computer drafting
in grade 12.
Then I will become an architect.
At this time I will have accomplished my dreams.

Andrew

dear Todd this poem I'm writing is about the future.

Old and died.

When I'm old I will have done everything but I will not be done .Even though I'm old, my oldnes is nothing til I die.  I still
will have much life. Life might be short so do what you want until your death arives, work hard to survive,If I may I will never die,but I will die to survive. If I may I will never be done til life has ran out. You only have 1 life so use it well, or it will be well wasted.  Make sure you use life to it's fullest, do as you wish just stay out of jail. Life is short, short is life so use it well.

Life Time
By DANIEL

When I am a old man i will travel.
Go to places I haven't been to, or remember.
I'll buy either whiskey, rum, scotch, or club soda.
I'll have a high paying income or my own business.
I'll have a stealth black convertible or jaguar.

A huge house with a theatre, big guest room's and a big garage.
I'll have a huge library with stephan king books and movies.
I'll collect magazines, movies, and beanie baby's.
I'll have short hair, play guitar and be really famous.

Money will be galore I will give to hospitals, churchs, and orphanage's.
I will live in New York and L.A half a year for both.

Dear Larissa,

I am writing to you to tell you that I am sending you another poem
about the future. This poem is what I am planing to do with my life in
the not to far future.

A Lyric poem

When I grow up I will be in the olympic's,
I will be in the olympic's for diving
Therfore I will need to go to school to get trained at a high paying job
This job will allow me to have alot of time off of work!
That is what I plan to be doing in the close future.

Love,
Jennifer

Hey, Ian how are you doing? John isn't here again today. Here is another one of my poems.

When I am an old man I shall be successful,
In a business that suits me.
Go to work in a Jaguar or maybe a Porsche.
I shall own the company or maybe be Chairman.
I shall not stop working for life is too short to do nothing.
All the workers will love me,
And I will be the nicest boss ever.

Well maybe I'm being too hard on myself.
I don't think I should work that long.
Maybe I will just plant gardens, and rest a lot

But first I still have to finish school.
If I want to be that successful,
I have to get good grades.

Teal

Dear Alexis,

I am going to write you a poem about my future.  This type of poem is called a Lyric.Tis is what I plan to do in my future and not care about anything or what I do when I am old.

A Lyric poem

When I am old I will get a pet
One that I never got when I was little
Like a cat or a dog.
I can be chubby and not even care.
Spend lots of money
And have lots of fun.
Get things I can't fit but still wear them.
Act like I am still a teenager
And have fun!!

From Krystle

Here is a new poem for you:

MY FUTURE

When I am 50 I will be old.
Won't care about nothing.
I will have fake teeth and have yellow nails.
My choice of cloths Won't matter because I am old.
I will go out in the rain, sit in the snow until I get wet.
My grand kids will hate me because I am a boring, bitter person.

I will eat smarties and live off of chocolate bars.
I will be so lazy that I will go to the bathroom in my chair.
Tie my hair in a loose knot before bed.
I shall hate my roomate at the hospital.
Take bus tours around north america.
Be mean to the bus boy, be nice to my doctor.
I will be a wacky old lady walking up and down the street all day.

Hope you liked it, bye!

TO JUSTIN

WHEN I AM AN OLD PERSON I SHALL BE RICH
HAVE A BIG HOUSE KNOW A LOT OF THINGS
AND I SHALL ENJOY MY LIFE IN THE LAST TIME
AND I SHALL DO WHAT I WANT TO DO
EAT WHAT I WANT TO EAT
I SHALL DO MORE EXERCISE TO KEEP A GOOD BODY
AND TEACH MY CHILDREN OR OTHER CHILDREN
WHAT WE SHOULD TO DO
AND WHAT WE SHOULD NOT TO DO
AND THINK ABOUT OTHER PERSON'S FEELING
I SHALL HAVE MANY KINDS OF ANIMALS
I SHALL HAVE MANY KINDS OF PLANTS
AND READ MANY KINDS OF BOOKS
BUT MAYBE I AM NOT RICH ENOUGH
SO I SHALL WORK HARD FOR EVERYTHING NOW.
