Babtiste was Sacagawea's baby he was born
on February 11, 1805. His father was Charbonneau.
Babtiste was born on the expedition. Clark
gave Babtiste the nickname "Pomp". while they were at camp Chopunnishe
became dangerously ill. His fever was high and his neck was swollen.
They treated him with different medicines. Then eventually they could
pronounce him well.
On July 25, 1806 Clark named Pompy's Tower for Babtiste. (near
present Billings, Montana. The butte is commonly called Pompey's
Pillar.)
When he was a little older Clark raised and took care of him.
